Teaching Bio:

My name is Nuno Lucas and I am pianist and piano teacher based in Cardiff. Born in Portugal, I first started having piano lessons at the age of eight at ‘Academia de Música de Lagos’. After I completed my grades with the highest mark, I came to Cardiff to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama where I currently study under the tuition of Professor Michael Young.

I have been a prize winner in several national and international piano competitions including; International Competition Cidade do Fundão and Concurso Internacional de Música Cidade de Almada. Recently in the United Kingdom, I was a finalist of the EPTA UK Piano Competition 2015 and the winner of the Eric Hodges Beethoven Competition 2015, the RWCMD Concerto Competition 2016, and the Mary Rees Chopin Prize 2016. As a soloist and chamber musician, important performances include the Prokofiev Piano Concerto N.2 for piano and orchestra with Tianyi Lu and the REPCo Symphony Orchestra in the Dora Stoutzker Hall at RWCMD.

I have also participated in several masterclasses with names such as Angela Hewitt, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Stephen Hough, Boris Berman, Artur Pizarro and Paul Badura-Skoda.

During the years at the college I have been developing a great interest for the art of piano teaching. My approach focuses the student's individual characteristics and studies are modelled according to the preferences and wishes on the pianistic development. In my lessons I cover a broad range of styles and genres and help on the improvement of important pianist skills such as sight-reading, harmony, music theory, aural skills and improvisation.

I am also a kind, patient and encouraging individual who transmits the passion for the piano to his students. Teaching available for all levels and ages including preparation for all grades (1-8).
