Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What age groups do you teach?

I'm happy to teach any student, child or adult above the age of 5, whether they want to take grades and exams or just play for fun.

Where do the lessons take place?

Our lessons will take place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Castle Grounds, Cathays Park, Cardiff CF10 3ER. It is great place to learn piano, in a warm and relaxing learning environment. Click on the map to bring up my rough location on Google Maps! I can also off my students the opportunity to learn in the comfort of their own homes if they have a piano / keyboard that we can use and live within Cardiff - for more information simply get in touch.

Can I/do I have to do exams and grade?

You can, but you don’t have to! My approach is student-led, meaning you determine what you want to achieve ultimately out of your lessons. Grades are a great way to mark your progress as well as being recognised in the industry, but they aren’t for everyone and no one will ever be pressured into doing anything they don’t want to do.

Who chooses what I play on the piano? I don’t want to play classical/contemporary music!

Again, lessons are student-led and each session is unique. Although there will be an element of technique work that every pupil covers, students are welcome to select their own repertoire and play whatever genre they want. If you haven’t got any ideas I will talk you through some suggestions and options – after a few weeks you’ll have more of an idea of what you want to play on the piano!

When do you teach?

I can teach any day, weekdays and weekends. I'm sure we can find a time that suits us both. I have a very flexible approach, competitive prices and a reasonable cancellation policy. More information is available by contacting me directly.

Will I really be able to play the piano even though I have never played an instrument before?

Music is a gift we all have inside of us, unleash it with tuition from me and you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it years ago! No one was born able to play the piano, not even Mozart, even he had to learn and practise hard to master it. With a bit of hard work, some individually tailored piano lessons and a passion to learn the piano I can promise that you will be able to play.

Classical and Contemporary

My piano lessons are driven by your personal taste in music, no matter which band / composer you passionate about - whether that is Coldplay or Chopin - we will play it in our lessons. I teach all levels of students, including many beginner students so would be delighted to help you if you are new to the piano, as well as those students looking to progress further. I tutor my students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in central Cardiff, with great access from across the city.

If this sounds like the kind of piano tuition you are looking for, don't hesitate to call me today for an obligation-free, friendly consultation on 03458 693391.

Learn to play the piano
The quality of the pianos at RWCMD is phenomenal, as well as the quality of the teaching, which is simple and motivational. I have already made progress, and I will definitely keep my routine of piano lessons with Nuno.
